Pucker up, because these babies will steal your heart and leave your lips soft and delicious!

Several weeks ago, I received a little package from Lush with some seasonal goodies and also one of my most anticipated new Lush products: Popcorn lip scrub!

I’ve always been a big fan of Lush’s lip scrubs, as evidence by my review of the (I believe) first lip scrub they made: Sweet Lips (click here). There’s nothing worse than wearing fabulous lipstick… with chapped, flaky lips. There is no way this is ever going to look good. As such, perfectly prepped lips are a prerequisite. And step 1 of lip prep is always: peeling them! The trouble with toothbrushes, even the soft kind, is that they are too harsh on the lips. They also add nothing by the way of care. Lush lip scrubs are gentle, yet effective, and they all contain caring jojoba oil, which helps care for your kisser, whether you apply a lipstick on top or just leave it alone.

Lush was kind enough to provide me with Mint Julips in the summer and now with Popcorn, the newest addition to the Lush lip scrub family. Here’s my review for both!

Mint Julips is not just a scrub, it’s also a plumper. For the ladies out there who want an all organic, safe and gentle lip plumper and scrub all in one yummy product, Mint Julips will do the trick. Added to the base of jojoba oil and sugar is some peppermint oil, which acts as a natural irritant that helps plump lips. The effect lasts well for about 45 minutes (which is way more than your typical plumper, in my experience) and then slowly fades, but still leaving lips beautiful.

I usually use Mint Julips before dates, because it makes my lips (which I leave bare, save for a balm) pop nicely and look all smooth and shiny. The taste of Mint Julips is also really nice, it really does taste of peppermint chocolate, but with a hint of cookie too, which I think comes from the vanilla extract in the product. Overall, a definite hit!

Popcorn is a limited edition lip scrub made for the Christmas 2012 season (which means you have about until the end of the year to get your hands on it, then it goes bye-bye!). It’s so well made and so unique that I’m actually very sad it won’t join the permanent range.
Popcorn contains not only jojoba oil and sugar, but also sea salt, coconut oil and polenta! Sounds yucky? Trust me, it’s delicious!

Popcorn is more heavy duty than the other Lush lip scrubs. You need a smaller amount of it and it’s more gritty due to the added buffing ingredients. Which makes it perfect for the winter time, when lips are more chapped and flaky than ever. It’s not an everyday scrub however, I think you could do more damage than good if you did use it daily (I don’t even use the others daily!), so be aware of that. Once a week or once a fortnight is plenty, depending on how you take care of your lips in general.

Popcorn is fast and easy to use and tastes and smells heavenly. It tastes like the lovechild of sea salt caramel toffee and buttered popcorn. Yu-hummmm!

Both Mint Julips and Popcorn are vegan and cruelty-free. The permanent range scrubs (Sweet Lips, Bubblegum, Mint Julips) retail at 12,50 CHF for a pot of 25g. Popcorn retails at 14,50 CHF for a pot of 25g.

All Lush lip scrubs work the same way: take a bit on a finger tip, rub it on your lips, wipe or lick the excess off when you’re finished (YES, you can EAT them!). Done and done. If I don’t intend to wear lipstick following the scrub, I usually apply a nourishing lip balm afterwards. This is not strictly necessary though, as all the scrubs already contain caring oils.

The Lush lip scrubs really are the bee’s knees in the lip peeling department. I’ve never come across anything better. If you want to peel your lips, get yourself a Lush lip scrub (they even have a bubblegum flavoured pink one, if that floats your boats)! Nothing else I know even comes close to the quality of these. I’ve had Sweet Lips for about 2 years now and it’s still perfect, so they even keep a hell of a long time!

Stay beautiful inside and out and kiss the one you love,

Anna
